Please note that tours of the keep and cellar cannot be offered every day. If you wish to have one, our terms and conditions for other individual tours apply in this case: a group of 10 or more people and booking at least one week in advance. You are free to choose a date.

What is there to discover in Castle Wernigerode?

Castle Wernigerode, impressively reconstructed in the 19th century, with its age-old history interwoven with the people and the land, as well as its maintained authenticity is a great experience.

Visitors will dive into the domestic culture of the German higher nobility of the second half of the 19th century. You will see almost 50 rooms in the two-part tour and experience the Princely Family’s private life. You will discover how highly-esteemed guests were received here according to their status and what services Otto zu Stolberg-Wernigerode performed.

You will find these first impressions on our website. The permanent exhibition is complemented by valuable special exhibitions.

They will provide you with more information on the history, on the crafts and on the people of the 19th century.

Since 1998, the castle has functioned as the first German centre of art and history of art of the 19th century (the period from 1803 to 1918). Sometimes we consciously focus visitors’ attention on the modern to show the result of development. We wish you an enjoyable visit to Castle Wernigerode!
